Leaderboard of the brands AI engines name most for UK invoice finance, credit control and cashflow in 2026

Who AI Engines Actually Recommend for UK Invoice Finance and Cashflow in 2026

Last updated: 11 August 2026

Ask ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews or Gemini a question about UK invoice finance, credit control or cashflow, and the first thing that answers you is rarely a company at all. Across the 499 answers we analysed, gov.uk and the British Business Bank are retrieved more often than any vendor, comparison site or accounting platform in the category. Once a brand does get named, the most frequently named one is not a lender. It is Xero, the accounting platform, mentioned in 27.45% of answers and taking up more than a quarter of everything said about the category. Read past the leaderboard, and a second pattern shows up just as clearly: a small number of comparison sites, not vendor websites, decide who else makes the shortlist.

Methodology: what we tracked and how we counted it

We track 48 questions that buyers plausibly ask an AI engine about UK invoice finance, credit control and cashflow. Each one runs against ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews and Gemini, every day. The leaderboard, sentiment, position and source figures in this article are drawn from 499 answers collected between 1 and 11 August 2026.

We record what the engine actually returns rather than what it is asked. For every answer we log which brands are named, how much of the answer belongs to each one, how the answer characterises them, and every source URL the engine retrieved to build it. No brand is credited for appearing in a question. Only what comes back in the answer counts.

Two metrics carry the leaderboard. "Named in % of answers" is the share of the 499 answers that mention the brand at all. "Share of the answer" is that brand's slice of all brand mentions counted across the whole set, its portion of the category conversation, not a description of any single answer. Sentiment is scored 0 to 100. Average position records where in the answer a brand tends to appear when it is named; lower means earlier.

Three things stand out once the table is in front of you.

The category leader is a platform, not a lender. Xero tops both frequency and share of the answer. Experian and Sage, second and third, are a credit bureau and an accounting platform respectively, not invoice finance or credit control specialists. Creditsafe, fourth, is another credit data business. The first brand in the table built specifically for cashflow and credit control is Satago, in fifth. The category's own answers are shaped as much by the tools businesses already use as by the finance products they are shopping for.

Frequency and share of the answer move independently. Bibby Financial Services is named in 8.02% of answers, less often than the six brands above it in the table, yet it takes up 7.06% of the answer once mentioned, more than Satago, which is named in 13.03% of answers and takes 6.96%. A brand that appears less often can still earn a fuller description when it does. The two metrics need reading side by side, not collapsed into one score.

Sentiment sits in a narrow, unremarkable band. Every brand in the table scores between 48 and 63 out of 100, with most clustered in the mid-to-high 50s. There is no standout villain or standout darling in this data. The category reads as competent and cautious across the board, which is broadly what you would expect from AI engines describing regulated financial products.

Where these answers actually come from

AI engines do not invent these recommendations. They retrieve sources and build the answer from what they read. Across the 499 answers, we counted every domain the engines pulled from, how often each one appeared, and how many of the 22 tracked brands each domain actually names.

Two patterns are worth pulling apart from that table.

Institutions own the top of the answer. gov.uk and british-business-bank.co.uk are the two most retrieved sources overall, ahead of every vendor and comparison site in the dataset. fca.org.uk sits fourth, icaew.com eighth, ukfinance.org.uk thirteenth, service.gov.uk seventeenth and moneyhelper.org.uk twentieth. Seven of the top 20 sources are government or institutional bodies. This is a regulated lending category, and AI engines default to official guidance before they default to any commercial page. No amount of content spend buys past that; the only route in is becoming a source those institutional pages point to.

A handful of comparison sites do almost all of the brand naming. marketinvoice.co.uk names 16 of the 22 brands in the table, more than any institutional site, any vendor site, or any other domain in the dataset. fundingagent.co.uk names 13, british-business-bank.co.uk names 12 (institutions do brand-name occasionally, just far less densely than comparison content), capitalise.com names 11, and ukfinance.org.uk names 9. These few pages, not individual company websites, are effectively where the category's shortlist gets written. A vendor's own domain being retrieved is a much weaker signal than being named on one of these five.

The paid layer is almost empty

Only 15 of the 499 answers we tracked, about 3%, carried any advertisement at all. Every advertiser we recorded across those answers sells into a problem adjacent to this category rather than the category itself:

"G-P handles taxes, compliance, and local currency across 180+ countries automatically." G-P (Globalization Partners), a global payroll platform, seen twice

"Contract review, drafting and dispute support." Harper James Limited, commercial solicitors, shown on a question about single-invoice finance

Twilio EMEA (an email-deliverability API), Litmus Sustainability (mid-market sustainability consulting) and Joiin (multi-entity financial reporting) round out the advertisers we recorded. None of them is an invoice finance, credit control or cashflow brand, and none of the 22 brands leading the organic leaderboard above bought a single ad across the questions we track. The paid surface in this category is, right now, essentially unclaimed.

What actually works in this category

Four things follow directly from the data above.

Comparison sites carry more weight than any single vendor's own content. marketinvoice.co.uk alone names more of the tracked brands than gov.uk, experian.co.uk or any vendor domain in the dataset. Getting named accurately on the handful of comparison pages that already do this work is a faster route to appearing in an AI answer than building an equivalent page from scratch on your own domain.

Institutional guidance is the one channel money cannot shortcut. gov.uk and the British Business Bank sit above every commercial source in this data. The only credible path into that layer is becoming genuinely citable by it: clear, accurate, well-structured information that an official guidance page would plausibly reference or that mirrors the standard it holds itself to.

The tools a business already runs shape the answer as much as the finance products it is shopping for. Xero and Sage between them account for two of the three most-named brands and sit third and twenty-second among all retrieved sources. A UK invoice finance or credit control brand's integration story with the accounting platforms buyers already use is now part of how AI describes the category, whether or not that brand is actively working the angle.

The paid layer rewards whoever moves first. With ad coverage sitting at roughly 3% and no dedicated invoice finance, credit control or cashflow advertiser found in the data, the cost of establishing a paid position in this category is about as low as it will get. That window closes the moment a real competitor starts bidding.
