Which London burger does AI recommend in 2026?

At a glance: Bleecker leads our selected London burger cohort, appearing in 331 of 493 AI answers (67.1%). Black Bear Burger and Burger & Beyond follow. These are measured appearances across ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews, not taste scores. For your next meal, the neighbourhood, burger and restaurant format still matter.

Updated 2 October 2026. Restaurant details and menus checked on this date; AI answer collection: 30 September 2026.

When I first arrived in London, McDonald's was my burger benchmark. A Google search brought me to Byron. Then came Shake Shack at university and Honest Burgers when I started working. Burger & Beyond, Black Bear and Heard have since made choosing dinner considerably harder.

I've been a Bleecker fan since 2017. Those medium-rare burgers were to die for, and I've recommended Bleecker to every friend visiting London since. London's burger scene is genuinely one of the things keeping me here.

Now that first search can happen inside an AI conversation. The answer gives you a handful of names before you've opened a restaurant website. The system hasn't tasted lunch. Its shortlist can still decide where lunch happens.

Which London burgers appear most often in AI answers?

The denominator is 493 answers, not 493 people. An answer can recommend several restaurants, so the percentages do not add up to 100%. A 67.1% appearance rate means Bleecker was named in 331 answers; it does not mean 67.1% of diners chose it.

The order covers this selected cohort, rather than every burger sold in London. Large international chains and several burger-adjacent restaurants are outside the published shortlist. Their omission is not evidence that AI never recommends them.

What should you order, and where should you go?

1. Bleecker: the beef-first choice, from Soho to Camden

Bleecker burger with melted cheese and bacon

Bleecker's lead is substantial: 121 more answers than Black Bear. For a first order, the Cheeseburger keeps the focus on the beef; the Bacon Double adds another patty and bacon. The current Bleecker menu lists them at Β£10.50 and Β£15.95 respectively.

Find Bleecker in Soho, Spitalfields, London Bridge and other London locations. Camden is already open, having launched on 27 August, so it belongs on a present-day itinerary rather than a coming-soon list. Pick the actual venue before setting off: a market stop and a restaurant visit are different plans.

2. Black Bear Burger: a sit-down meal in White City

Black Bear Burger with melted cheese and bacon

I love Black Bear in White City. It's my two-and-a-half-year-old daughter's favourite restaurant; she can't walk past without shouting to go inside. That is a stronger recommendation in our household than any leaderboard.

There is a practical distinction across Black Bear's locations: the full-service restaurants carry a fuller menu, while food-hall counters concentrate on burgers, fries and shakes. Westfield is on the southern terrace and takes reservations. Try the Double Miso Bacon if you want something beyond a straightforward cheeseburger.

3. Burger & Beyond: dry-aged beef and a longer dinner

Burger & Beyond appeared in just seven fewer answers than Black Bear. That small gap is not a reason to skip either. Choose Burger & Beyond when you want dry-aged beef in a restaurant setting, with London venues in Shoreditch, Soho and Borough Yards.

The Shoreditch restaurant is at 147 Shoreditch High Street. It offers bookings and a weekday lunch menu, while the Soho address is 10 Old Compton Street. Those details make it easier to turn a burger recommendation into an actual lunch or evening plan.

4. Honest Burgers: remember that the chips are included

Honest began in Brixton in 2011. Its menu still makes one useful comparison simple: burgers come with rosemary salted chips, coleslaw or a green salad. A burger-only price elsewhere is not a like-for-like meal price.

The Tribute brings beef, bacon, American cheese, burger sauce, French's mustard, pickles, onion and lettuce together. There are plant-based and vegetarian alternatives too. Local specials give different restaurants their own reason to visit, rather than making the nearest pin the only choice.

5. The Plimsoll: a burger in a proper pub

The Plimsoll is the useful interruption to a brand-heavy list. At 52 St Thomas's Road, near Finsbury Park, the Dexter cheeseburger sits inside a pub menu of changing small plates. You can make dinner out of more than burgers and fries.

The Infatuation's Plimsoll review describes that combination; The Nudge details the Dexter beef, American cheese and onion in the burger. Its 130 appearances show how strongly an individual restaurant can feature alongside larger burger brands.

6. Heard: Soho or Borough now, Covent Garden next

Heard serves British beef aged for at least 28 days, then smashed on the grill. The official locations page lists Soho at 31 Foubert's Place and Borough at 1 Flat Iron Square, with walk-ins, bookings and collection available.

As of 2 October, the same site labels 33 to 35 Wellington Street in Covent Garden coming soon. That matters if you're building a West End route: Soho is a current option; don't assume the new address is serving yet. Heard's 106 appearances put it comfortably inside this cohort's top half.

7. Patty & Bun: start with the Ari Gold

The Ari Gold combines dry-aged beef, cheese, lettuce, pickled onions, ketchup and smoky P&B mayonnaise. The menu also lists a vegan Ari Gold, so a mixed group does not have to split its order across restaurants.

Patty & Bun's 65 appearances narrowly exceed Dumbo's 62. The useful distinction is the meal you want: Patty & Bun offers a wider set of named burger combinations. Check the restaurant location before planning to book; arrangements are venue-specific.

8. Dumbo: a short menu and a walk-in plan

Dumbo smash burger with cheese in a soft bun

Dumbo's London restaurants are at 119 Bethnal Green Road in Shoreditch and 37 Berwick Street in Soho. Its compact menu keeps the choice focused on burgers and fries, with nuggets and a cookie among the extras.

Dumbo does not take reservations. If certainty about a table matters more than spontaneity, choose a restaurant with a confirmed booking instead. The Soho opening also appears in our September London restaurant openings.

9. Manna: choose between food-hall energy and Marylebone

Manna builds its smash burgers around thick pickles and a brioche bun. Its Arcade food-hall presence makes it useful when the group doesn't all want to order from the same kitchen.

Marylebone adds a different format. The James Street opening is Manna's first standalone UK restaurant, at 54 James Street. The current Marylebone listing confirms the address. A restaurant table there and a food-hall meal in Battersea are not interchangeable recommendations.

10. Jupiter Burger: a Netil Market stop

Jupiter is at Netil Market, 13 to 23 Westgate Street. Time Out's Jupiter review describes Hill & Szrok beef in a Martin's potato roll, with pickles, onion, tomato, lettuce and Jupiter sauce.

That gives you a specific east London lunch stop, rather than another cross-city detour. The counter's grab-and-go format is part of the choice: plan it as a market stop rather than a booked restaurant dinner.

11. Flip & Sear: Wagyu burgers, with two different settings

Flip & Sear advertises Wagyu beef burgers and lists its Food District counter at 145 to 147 Edgware Road. Maison Noor's partner page gives a second setting at 3 Chadwick Road in Ilford, with handmade demi-brioche buns.

Edgware Road is the central option; Ilford belongs in an east London plan. The Maison Noor opening report adds context about the food hall. Choose the location first, then check the menu attached to that counter rather than assuming every dish travels between them.

12. Gourmet Burger Club: a reservable Covent Garden option

Gourmet Burger Club lists Covent Garden, Twickenham, Banstead and Cobham. Reservations and group enquiries are available, which makes it a different proposition from a walk-in-only counter.

For central London, the Covent Garden restaurant is the relevant starting point. Its 23 appearances are modest beside the leaders, but the practical question for a group can be whether everyone can sit down together. Don't confuse the name with Gourmet Burger Kitchen: they are different businesses.

13. Bun & Sum: Camden when you want more than a cheeseburger

Bun & Sum at Camden Market pairs smash burgers with smoked meats, including brisket and pastrami. The venue listing names the Cuban Frita and Big S'Mac, plus loaded fries and dirty tots.

Find it in the West Yard at Camden Lock Market. This is a useful alternative when the appeal is a bigger, heavily dressed burger rather than Bleecker's simpler beef-led order nearby.

14. Dove: a restaurant dinner with a burger on the menu

Dove is Jackson Boxer's neighbourhood restaurant at 31 Kensington Park Road in Notting Hill. Its broader seasonal menu makes it a different kind of choice from a specialist burger counter.

The Infatuation's Dove review identifies a dry-aged beef burger with gorgonzola. Check Dove's current menus before booking specifically for it: a restaurant's changing dish selection is a different commitment from a burger shop's core menu. This is Dove in Notting Hill, not the Hammersmith pub of the same name.

15. MEATliquor: the Dead Hippie belongs in the conversation

MEATliquor rounds out this selection with 10 appearances. Its Dead Hippie is a recognised signature, and the restaurant-and-bar format gives you a longer evening than a takeaway counter.

Check the chosen venue's menu and booking arrangements directly before building an evening around it.

How should you use the ranking to choose lunch?

Start with your route. For Soho, Bleecker, Burger & Beyond, Heard and Dumbo give you different menus within one neighbourhood. Camden puts Bleecker and Bun & Sum into a market visit. White City points towards Black Bear's full-service Westfield restaurant; Netil Market makes Jupiter an east London stop.

Then choose the format:

  • A quick walk-in: Dumbo's no-reservations model or a market counter fits a flexible lunch.
  • A table booked in advance: Black Bear Westfield, Burger & Beyond or Gourmet Burger Club offer booking routes.
  • A mixed food-hall group: Manna at Arcade lets the burger eater stay with friends choosing other kitchens.
  • A pub or broader restaurant meal: The Plimsoll and Dove make sense when the burger is one part of dinner.

Compare the full order, too. On Bleecker's menu checked on 2 October, a Β£15.95 Bacon Double plus Β£4.75 fries totals Β£20.70 before a drink. Honest includes a side with its burgers. That does not make one automatically cheaper, but it tells you which prices to compare.

What does an AI appearance actually measure?

We counted appearances in 493 answers to 20 London burger questions, collected on 30 September 2026 across ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews. These were burger-discovery questions, not a representative survey of London's diners. Claude and other assistants were not measured in this ranking.

Nine entries use the original tracked brand counts. Six additional restaurants were identified and counted in the same answer text: The Plimsoll, Manna, Jupiter Burger, Flip & Sear, Gourmet Burger Club and Dove. Each restaurant counts at most once per answer. Both routes use the same 493-answer denominator.

The published selection combines burger specialists with a small number of pub and restaurant burger destinations. Some belong to wider groups. It is not an exhaustive London league table, nor a list restricted to independently owned UK companies.

The numbers pool the three measured systems. They do not show an engine-by-engine winner, recommendation order within an answer, bookings or revenue. Different questions, locations, dates or model settings can produce a different order. Even the seven-answer gap between Black Bear and Burger & Beyond should be read as a small observed difference, not a durable verdict.

What can restaurant teams learn from this?

Bleecker's category lead is clear. The next commercial question is whether the same restaurant appears when someone asks for lunch near their hotel, a quick meal in Soho or somewhere to eat after shopping. Being recognised as a burger specialist and being recommended for a particular meal are separate jobs.

For a restaurant team, the practical sequence is:

  1. Check the answer against the actual venue. Does it give the right address, opening status, menu and booking route?
  2. Separate location and occasion questions. A strong London-wide answer can conceal weak discovery around an individual restaurant.
  3. Give each venue a complete page. Put its current menu, service format, reservations and nearby context together so the recommendation can be specific.
  4. Re-run the same questions after changes. Compare like with like before claiming an improvement.

A restaurant already near the top can still be missing from the meals it is well equipped to serve. A lower-ranked restaurant needs to know whether its problem is broad recognition, one locality or simply an inaccurate description.

We help restaurant teams investigate those gaps through AI-search visibility audits. If you're choosing dinner, use the restaurant links above. No audit is needed for that.
