A Schmitdy dolphin comparing London barbecue restaurants in an AI answer

London BBQ Restaurants in 2026: 413 AI Answers Compared

TL;DR

  • We tested 55 questions about London barbecue, smoked meat, Hackney Wick, group dining and late-night food.
  • Across 413 completed answers, SMOKESTAK appeared in 35.11%, Big Easy in 20.10% and Texas Joe's in 15.25%.
  • Hons BBQ did not appear in a measured answer. That is a discovery gap, not a verdict on the restaurant.
  • Time Out was the strongest measured source, with 317 citations. The Nudge, DesignMyNight, The Infatuation and Reddit also shaped the shortlist.

AI engines already have a stable picture of London barbecue. It favours restaurants with years of list coverage, clear category pages and repeated mentions across dining guides.

We measured 55 buyer questions across ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overview on 25 August 2026. The set covered brisket, beef ribs, low-and-slow cooking, Asian-influenced barbecue, Hackney Wick, group occasions and food with music. It produced 413 completed answers.

Which London BBQ restaurants appear most often?

RestaurantAnswers naming the restaurant
SMOKESTAK35.11%
Big Easy20.10%
Texas Joe's15.25%
Burnt Smokehouse15.01%
Red Dog Saloon14.04%
temper8.96%
Hons BBQ0.00%

This is not a list of the best food. It shows which tracked names enter an AI answer when a diner asks a practical question.

SMOKESTAK benefits from a long public record across restaurant guides and its own site. Big Easy and Red Dog Saloon also have clear category associations. Hons has press coverage, but the entity is new and its own web footprint is still thin.

What sources shape the shortlist?

Time Out led with 317 citations. Big Easy's own site received 95, The Nudge 92, Red Dog Saloon 91 and DesignMyNight 85. The Infatuation, OpenTable, SquareMeal, Thatsup and Reddit also appeared often.

That mix matters. AI engines do not build a restaurant answer from the venue website alone. They combine first-party facts with editorial lists, booking profiles and public discussion.

For a new restaurant, the job is to keep facts aligned across those surfaces. The location, opening times, menu style, group policy and late-night offer should match. A venue also needs a clear page that answers why it belongs in the category.

What should a London BBQ guide compare?

A useful guide should separate cooking style from atmosphere.

DecisionEvidence a diner needs
MeatCuts, smoking method and availability
StyleTexas, British, Asian-influenced or mixed
LocationNeighbourhood and transport
Group fitTable size, sharing format and booking rules
Night outClosing time, drinks, DJs or live music
PriceCurrent menu prices and platter size

These facts change. A guide should show its check date and link to the venue's current page.

What does Hons need to publish?

Hons has a distinct story: chef-led barbecue in Hackney Wick, Texas technique with Asian flavour, and a venue designed for dinner that can turn into a night out. The missing piece is a first-party guide that states those facts in a form an answer engine can retrieve.

The strongest first page would cover the menu, the smoking style, Queen's Yard, group dining and the music programme. It should use current facts, show the last update date and link to booking or walk-in guidance.

Third-party coverage should then point to the same claims. That gives the engines both a source of record and independent support.
